Scholarships, Bursaries & Awards

Please note that, with the exception of the GVPAF awards, students must be currently studying with a member of the Victoria Branch to be eligible for awards and bursaries.


Please also note that awards are given as funding is available.



Mackenzie Barry Summer School Bursaries                                                           Pat Williamson


Assistance is given annually to students of any discipline for summer study.  Applications are accepted until April 30.  Amounts given vary by grade and type of summer program.


We are grateful for the generous donations that enable us to offer these scholarships until 2024 in memory of Mackenzie Barry.  Please click here to read more.

 


Madeleine Till Student Teacher Award                                                                     Geraldine Pugh


An award open only to members of our Student Teacher Auxiliary, any discipline, and is based on the level of progress shown in a given year.  Applications are accepted until September 30.


Amount awarded:  $200

 


Charles Palmer Memorial Organ Award                                                                   Pat Williamson


This award is presented once every two years (in the even years) to a deserving organ student.  The award is based on progress shown and teacher reference. Applications are accepted until November 30.

Helen Gibson Award                                                                                                  Louise Holland


The award will be given annually to a deserving student of any discipline who has completed their RCM Level 10 with a member of the Victoria branch of the BCRMTA and is preparing for their ARCT performer's or teacher's examination with a member of the Victoria branch. 


Applications are accepted until October 15.


Amount awarded:  $300

 


RCM Alumni Awards                                                                                                Louise Holland


  • Open to any discipline for levels 5, 6, 7*, 9, and 10, with theory complete

  • Minimum mark for awards is 80% with the award given for the top mark

  • Amounts of the awards variable according to the available branch funds and private donations

  • Given once each year


* Susan Pappajohn Award                                                                                        Louise Holland


  • Top mark in Level 7 RCM piano, with theory complete

  • Award of $250 provided by Susan Pappajohn's family in her memory
 

Level 8 100% Theory Award                                                                                       Louise Holland


  • Award of $50 to all members' students who receive this mark



Hilda King Theory Awards                                                                                         Pat Williamson


  • Open to Level 9 Harmony, Level 10 Harmony & Counterpoint, Level 9 History, and Level 10 History

  • Minimum mark for awards is 80% with the award going to the top mark

  • Amount of each award is $75

 


Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival                                                                Pat Williamson


Through the GVPAF, we annually present awards for excellence in festival classes as determined by the adjudicators.  Awards are given in piano, voice, strings, woodwinds and guitar in all levels (junior to open).  The awards are under the direction of the GVPAF scholarship chairperson.



Musical Community Service Awards                                                   


Through the BCRMTA, students are encouraged to volunteer by sharing their music in the community.  Certificates are awarded based on the number of volunteer hours.  Certificates are issued twice a year after receipt of the application and record form.  The deadlines for submission are October 1st and May 1st.  More information can be found on the BCRMTA provincial website
